KBB-style tools ask you (or the seller) how good the car is, then give a price range for cars like it. Deal ratings check if the asking price matches other ads. Neither opens your photos. Dr. Vin marks what he sees on this listing, estimates what it costs to fix, and shows a range for this car when you go meet the seller.
What this is not
Not a VIN history report. Not a mechanic's inspection. Not a claim that we are "more accurate than KBB." Different job: what shows up in the photos of this car.

FAQ
- Is the free check really free?
- Yes. Every upload includes a free Visual Diagnostic Scan: 0–5 condition grade, findings marked on the photos, Listing Clarity, negotiating room when the market grounds, NHTSA recalls, and Dr. Vin's Verdict direction when you add an asking price. The Prescription ($15) unlocks per-finding repair costs, buyer value impact, clean market vs condition-adjusted range, and a shareable report for the meet-up. No account required.
- How does Dr. Vin decide which listings are worth visiting?
- Dr. Vin's Verdict compares the condition-adjusted market value against the asking price when live comparable listings ground that value. The condition-adjusted value starts with the market value for that year, make, and model, then deducts for every issue found in the photos. If the adjusted value is at or above the asking price, the listing is labeled Worth visiting. If the asking price is close to the adjusted value, it is labeled Worth asking about. Call and negotiate before you drive. If the asking price significantly exceeds the adjusted value, it is labeled Walk away. Dr. Vin's Verdict is an attention-allocation recommendation, not a buy or don't-buy verdict, and it does not replace a VIN history report, a mechanic's inspection, or a test drive.
- How is Dr. Vin different from CarGurus or KBB fair price tools?
- KBB prices the category. Dr. Vin prices the car. CarGurus and KBB compare the asking price to other ads (or a condition level you pick) for the same trim and mileage. They do not open your listing photos. A car with bad paint and a fair asking price can still show as a Good Deal because the price matches the market. Dr. Vin looks at the photos of this car, marks what he sees, estimates what it costs to fix, and shows a range for when you go meet the seller. Different job. We do not claim to be more accurate than KBB; we look at what shows up in the photos.
